Undeterred by heavy and continuous rainfall, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Srinagar successfully flagged off a mega cycling rally today under the nationwide FIT INDIA Initiative, as part of the ongoing "Janbhagidari Movement."
Titled “Making Cycling Sundays Active,” the event witnessed the spirited participation of 160 young cyclists from different parts of Srinagar, all united by the common goals of fitness, environmental sustainability, and community engagement.
The rally was flagged off from the Youth Hostel Gate by Mr. Ghulan Hassan Lone, DYSSO Srinagar, accompanied by Zonal Physical Education Officers and officials from the Activity Section. Braving the inclement weather, the participants showcased admirable enthusiasm and resilience.
The cycling route spanned several iconic locations across the city, including Radio Colony, Rajbagh, SPS Museum, and LD Hospital, before concluding at the Youth Hostel Campus in Wazir Bagh. The smooth execution of the event was credited to the meticulous planning and coordination of the DYSSO Srinagar’s Activity Section.
Addressing the participants at the end of the rally, Mr. Lone highlighted the dual benefits of cycling — promoting personal fitness and serving as an eco-friendly mode of transportation amidst growing environmental concerns and the global energy crisis. He encouraged young people to embrace cycling not just as a recreational activity, but as a sustainable and healthy lifestyle choice.
The event concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to all participants, recognizing their enthusiastic participation and determination despite the weather challenges.
