President TAAK , Ashfaq Sidiq Dug in a statement said that the decision to operate night flights , direct flights from Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkota and direct international flights to Kualalumpur from Srinagar Airport is a very positive development viz a viz Kashmir Tourism industry. This was a long pending demand of Tourism stakeholders which finally has been considered . We would like to congratulate everyone who worked hard and build up the pressure for these initiatives to be taken up by the government.
The statement is issued in response to the announcement made by Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha on Thursday who assured that the Srinagar airport would be equipped with night-landing facility within a few months.
We feel that these positive developments will bring more tourist footfall to valley which has otherwise fallen prey to negative media campaign. This development will mean more tourists flying to state and consequently helping in boosting the economy of our state .
Over the years we have witnessed disruption and frequent cancellation of flights at Srinagar airport due to poor visibility. Hence, we would also like to call upon the concerned authorities to keep up the promise of upgrading the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the earliest so that the people travelling to and from Srinagar don’t suffer.
President TAAK said that the current outdated ILS impairs the smooth operation of Air Travel during low visibility at the Srinagar Airport which not only has serious impact on Kashmir’s economy but locals at large have to suffer due to frequent closure of Srinagar – Jammu National highway during winters and the only other option of Air Travel also remain affected by the present outdated ILS .
Need of the hour is to ensure time bound installation and operation of ILS at Srinagar airport that could facilitate operation of flights in low-visibility.
TAAK had previously held a series of meetings with the concerned authorities to get the Instrument Landing system installed and upgraded which was later on taken up by the then Chief Minister of the state with the Government of India .TAAK hopes that the announcement made regarding operation of night flights , direct flights from Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkatta and an international flight to KL from Srinagar Airport is taken up on priority and ILS is upgraded at the earliest .
