NIT students protests, demand postponement of exams

‘Deferring exams would waste one semester’

December 07, 2019 | BK NEWS DESK/SRINAGAR

Protests erupted at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hazratbal after students demanded that exams may be postponed.
Sources said said the students of first and third semester wanted exams to be postponed till February as they had not completed their syllabus due to the last four months of uncertainty in Kashmir.
“However, the authorities wanted to hold exams on time as deferring the same would waste their semester. It infuriated the students, who resorted to violence. Earlier on Wednesday evening, the protesting students took faculty members hostage and didn’t allow them to leave the campus till 8 pm,” they said.
A senior faculty member told KNS that some mischievous students were trying to spoil the career of other students and appropriate action will be taken against them.
“Indiscipline won’t be tolerated and exams would be held on time. We have given them 10-days time for preparation and even some relaxation in syllabus has also been given. We will hold the exams on time,” he said.
