Kashmir braces for snowfall
There was not let up in intense cold conditions in Kashmir on Friday and the Valley is bracing up for snowfall from Saturday evening.
A Meteorological department official said Srinagar recorded night temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
It was second coldest night after December 1 when temperature dropped to 2.5 degrees Celsius.
The official said Qazigund recorded minimum temperature of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, Kokernag recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius and in Kupwara town in north Kashmir night temperature settled at minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius as against minus 1.5 degrees Celsius on the previous night.
In Ladakh UT, Leh recorded a low of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, Kargil town recorded a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius while night temperature in Drass settled at minus 12.9 degrees Celsius.
The weatherman has forecast light to moderate snowfall and rains in plains of Jammu and Kashmir from December 4-6.
“A fresh western disturbance most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas during December 4 (evening) to 6th (afternoon) with peak activity on December 5,” the MeT official said.
