Former chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday cautioned the government of India over any tinkering with the special status of the state- stating that any such actin will be fraught with dangerous consequences.
Mehbooba while addressing workers in north Kashmir’s Baramulla questioned the government of India’s move to virtually handover Kashmir to forces- stating that such state actions shrouded in mystery have caused serious doubts in peoples’ minds.
She added that not elections but safeguarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir must be the prime concern of the political parties and that all in unison must make hectic and joint efforts to disallow any attempts aimed at diluting the unique position of Jammu and Kashmir state. She added that the present time is of the tough ordeals for Kashmir’s mainstream camp as the separatist leaders have been jailed and the onus now lies with the Kashmir’s mainstream camp to deal with the challenge related to the tinkering of Article 35-A.
Earlier, on 28 July while addressing PDP’s foundation day ceremony, Mehbooba had targeted the central government and said that tampering with Article 35A will be akin to tempering with the powder keg.
