Of the Blessed Month and our Responsibilities

May 24, 2020 | Syed Maajid Rashid Andrabi

Now that we have reached the culmination of the blessed month of Ramadan, I wish that all of us receive the blessings of Almighty Allah in bounty. This month is blessed in the sense that it strengthens the bond of association between the creator and the creation. Not only this, it imbibes a sense of compassion and empathy among the people so that they can do justice with the commandments of Allah SWT. It is the perfect time to bring tranquility in ourselves as this blessed month amplifies our spiritual powers and makes one to shun the path of falsehood and elevates his standard for both the worlds (here and hereafter). People spend more time in supplications so as to please Almighty Allah SWT to get salvation from their sins. The Holy month of Ramadan is full of blessings for the people. Day long fasting, prayers at the prescribed time, recitation of Holy Quran Sharief all make one’s day a pleasant one.Almost every act of ours gives a sense of steadfastness which truly reciprocate with the decrees of Allah SWT. There seems a substantial change in our daily affairs as we are mandated to act likewise to show our gratitude and respect towards this blessed month. As already mentioned in the Holy Book “Quran Sharief”, that the supplications done in this month are rewarded many folds, everyone devotes his/her time in the most effective manner to get His divine sanctifications so, as to be among the righteous ones, whom Almighty Allah is pleased with. The blessed month is the chosen one in which the night of Decree “Laylatul Qadr” falls, which is better than a thousand months. It is the night when the Holy “Quran Sharief” was sent down from heaven by the Almighty Allah. The Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) said “whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven”. This month is a source of mercy and compassion to all the people who have been able to please Allah (SWT) with their obedience .Long queues of worshipers are witnessed who spend their time glorifying the Almighty Allah to seek His pleasure, to get what they are in need of.
With the global pandemic reeling over, the life came to a standstill and the people got restricted to their homes.Owing to the safety measures which needed to be followed, the blessed month of Ramadan wasn’t observed with that much of fervor but the bounties and blessings which come along with it, remain unquestionable. Though people weren’t able to worship in gatherings but none was devoid of the mercy and benevolence of this month. Instead small congregations of family members happened inside homes in the very prescribed format which revived their spiritual morale and were unified in seeking the rewards from Almighty Allah SWT. This month brought loved ones together in their resolve to get the most by respecting the divine ordinance. Having said that, we need to remember that this month prepares us to be on the right path which should be followed always. There should be no deviations from the practices that were followed in this month, rather our love for the Creator should grow day by day which should get reflected from our behavior.
Now as we are in the midst of the pandemic that has wreaked havoc in the lives of people, it is high time that we supplicate towards the Almighty Allah so as to pray to bring an end to this crisis. Most importantly we need to understand that our being is of no value until we are of some help to the people who are in need at this time. We need to look around and search for the needy so, that they too can observe this festival with grace. We have to make the best use of zakat and other charitable donations so that it can reach to the most deserving one’s to have the mercy of Allah SWT on us. Almighty Allah states that “Have you seen him who belies the rewards and punishments of the Hereafter? He it is who drives away the orphan and does not urge giving away the food of the poor. (107:1 - 3)”. Thereby it is incumbent upon all of us to look for the worthy and give our share of charity to them as charity stands in the way of calamity. We also need to practice simplicity on the auspicious day of Eid so, that anyone doesn’t get hurt by our showoff. We need to keep in mind that we must exhibit humility and lend our helping hand to those who are in need. It is the time to stand firm on the basic values so that we could justify the commandments of Almighty Allah to earn His blessings.
