Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narender Modi for his ‘graveyard-shamshan’ statement during electioneering in Uttar Pradesh (UP), former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the BJP is back to religious cards.Mr Modi had said that “if there is a ‘kabaristaan’ (graveyard), there should be a ‘shamshaan’ (cremation ground) too in a village, “if there is electricity during Ramzan, it should be there on Diwali too”.
However, the statement of Prime Minister evoked sharp reaction from Congress and other mainstream political parties.
The working president of the main opposition in Jammu and Kashmir , where BJP is in alliance with PDP in the government, Omar Abdullah taking micro blogging site twitter said “For all the talk of “vikas” & “parivartan” true to form we are back to the religious card. Things must be going very badly for BJP in UP”.
Reacting to another statement of Mr Modi that SP did not respect ideals of Ram Manohar Lohia ji by allying with Congress, Omar Abdullah said “It’s OK for BJP to betray the ideals of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee when they ally with PDP but SP must be held to a higher standard, right?”.
