Authorities said one-way traffic will be allowed on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Friday.
The highway remained closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday due to landslides and shooting stones. “Passenger Light Motor Vehicles shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu (only one way) in view of continuous shooting stones on Jammu-Srinagar highway,” officials said.
Officials said the vehicular movement on the only surface link connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was suspended on Thursday due to huge landslide and continuous shooting stones at Ramban.
The highway was opened briefly for the movement of stranded passenger light-medium vehicles (LMVs) on Wednesday afternoon but it had to be closed shortly.
A traffic department official advised commuters not to undertake any journey on the highway till the restoration work is completed. Men and machines have been pressed into service to clear the debris from the road, traffic official said.
Meanwhile, Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts, remained closed for vehicular movement accumulation of snow at Peer Ki Gali. The road was closed for traffic on December 23 last year. Also, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road remained shut for vehicular movement.
