A seven-year-old boy was murdered and his body hidden in a suitcase for over a month allegedly by a tenant of his family in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of police (northwest) Aslam Khan said the boy, Ashish, had been missing since January 7 and his body was found bundled in a suitcase at Nathupura village on Tuesday morning. “The tenant, Avadesh Sakya, who is in his late 20s, has been arrested,” Khan said.
Though the exact motive of the crime is yet to be found, police said the accused was allegedly miffed with the boy’s parents as they objected to his habit of partying. He told the police that the boy was close to him and called him ‘uncle’. Police said Sakya, a UPSC aspirant, also did not like it when the parents allegedly refused to send Ashish to meet him.
Police said that looking at the condition of the boy’s body in the suitcase, it appears that he was killed soon after he went missing. However, cause and time of death will be clear after the post-mortem. A case under relevant sections has been registered at Swaroop Nagar police station.
Police said that Sakya had been living as a tenant of the family for the last eight years. After initially staying in the same house as the family, he moved to another of their property five years ago. Sakya has attempted to crack UPSC preliminary examination three times in the past, police said. “He had been planning to make a ransom call to the boy’s parents,” an investigator said.
