Pakistan beat India by 180 runs to win their maiden Champions Trophy title

Pakistan (338/4) beat India (158 in 30.3 Ovs) by 180 runs to win their maiden Champions Trophy title in London.

Sent in to bat at the Kennington Oval, they made 338 for 4 in the stipulated 50 overs.

Opener Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer with a fine 114 off 106 balls.

The other opener Azhar Ali was run out for 59. Mohammad Hafeez remained unbeaten on 57.

India needed the biggest score to win a Champions Trophy match but they were dethroned by their closest rivals during a devastating spell of bowling. Amir trapped Rohit Sharma lbw from the third ball, before captain Virat Kohli was dropped and then dismissed in successive balls. And when the tournament’s top scorer Shikhar Dhawan followed India looked cooked.
Hardik Pandya did score the fastest half century in a major ICC global final but his innings of 76 from 43 balls was ended in a calamitous run-out to hand Pakistan victory, their first major tournament win for eight years.
