A three member Fact Finding Committee (FFC) of Press Council of India (PCI) arrived in Srinagar on a three-day visit to interact with the media fraternity of Kashmir.
The three member committee comprises Prakash Dubey, convener and group editor of Daink Bhaskar, Gurbir Singh of The New Indian Express, and Dr Suman Gupta, editor of Jan Morcha.
The committee members would interact with media fraternity of Kashmir and individuals on certain issues concerns pertaining to their day to day work.
“Any journalist or persons of media fraternity who are desired to meet the team can have interaction with the jury after getting the prior appointment. Those interested to meet the committee can contact on 9419007064 for appointment,” an official spokesman said.
PDP chief and former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had shot a letter to PCI seeking its intervention to prevent the continued harassment of media by the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir. In her letter Mufti said at least 23 Kashmiri journalists have been put on the Exit Control List by the government.
The PCI took sou-mottu cognizance of Mehbooba’s concern about the intimidation and harassment of journalists in Jammu and Kashmir and constituted a three member fact finding committee to look into the matter
The committee will make a thorough probe into the matter holding discussions with the concerned authorities and the affected journalists and collect such information as it deem fit to submit its report to the council at the earliest.
In the past two years, many journalists have been summoned, detained or booked by police in Kashmir.
