People bask ‘rare’ sunshine after rains

People continued to enjoy summer-like weather for the second successive day today due to sunshine though night temperature dipped several notches and settled below freezing point at majority of the places in the Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, Leh was the coldest place in the region at minus 10.4 degree, followed by world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where mercury dipped and settled at minus 9.5 degree.
A Met department spokesperson said that weather will remain mainly dry during the next 48 hours, resulting in further dip in the night temperature due to open skies. However, he said maximum temperature could witness further improvement in the coming days.
The night temperature at Leh witnessed a dip of about 5 degree from yesterday and settled at minus 10.4 degree.
He said the sky will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperature would be 7 degree and minus 5 degree.
People at Gulmarg, which attracts tourists, including adventure lovers and skiers from around the world during winter months, shivered as the night temperature further dipped and settled at minus 9.5 degree, against minus 7 degree recorded yesterday. The night temperature at the ski resort, which is already under over 10 feet of snow, was about four degree below normal.
After witnessing a considerable dip in the night temperature, people woke up to sunshine morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. As the day progressed, the temperature improved further due to bright sunshine, brining much needed relied to the people from chilly weather.
Against 2.7 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Srinagar was 0.9 degree, which is slightly below normal. Yesterday, the day temperature recorded in the summer capital was three degree above normal.
The spokesperson said sky would be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 13 degree and 2 degree respectively.
The mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam dipped and settled about three degree below normal. Against 0.2 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was minus 6.6 degree.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir valley, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, dipped about 2 degree from yesterday and settled at 0.4 degree, though it is still above normal.
Another health Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir also witnessed dip in the night temperature. Against 0.5 degree at both the places yesterday, the night temperatures were minus 0.2 degree at Kokernag and minus 2.5 degree at Kupwara respectively.
