PO recruitment examination:

Uniform cutoff for whole state sparks protest in Kashmir

May 15, 2019 | BK DESK/SRINAGAR

Candidates from Kashmir Valley who have qualified probationary officer (PO) recruitment Preliminary examination Tuesday staged a massive protest against Jammu Kashmir Bank’s declaration of uniform cutoff for whole state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Scores of aspirants assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and mocked at JK Bank for conducting Preliminary examination which according to them turned out to be useless process after Banks decision to announce a uniform cutoff of 40 marks across the state.
In October 2018, J&K Bank had advertised for 250 vacancies of POs and a three-phase recruitment process. According to the bank’s notification, an initial preliminary examination is to be followed by the mains, and finally the interview round.Last week, J&K Bank declared the result of preliminary exams and fixed district-wise cutoff marks to shortlist candidates eligible for the mains examination.
The protesting aspirants alleged that JK Bank buckled under pressure from the Governor who in turn appeased BJP and directed Bank to revisit its decision on cut off. They said that revised cutoff now has left everyone including them angry.
Ovais Nisar, a protester who has qualified Preliminary examination told news agency CNS that it is really shameful on part of an autonomous body like JK Bank to buckle under political pressure. “It has become amply clear that Jammu and Kashmir Bank has taken this decision under pressure. There is nobody who cares for Kashmir. It is ironical that incumbent Governor cares about Jammu and is trampling Kashmir under his feet,” he said.
The protesters threatened to launch an agitation and hit to roads on daily basis if the decision is not rolled back. They said Bank has succumbed under pressure from Jammu and just to appease them, Kashmiris are being made scapegoat. (CNS)
