Police evacuate people living near waterbodies; set up helpline in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Police today evacuated families living near waterbodies in north Kashmir due to rise in water level following incessant rains since yesterday.

Meanwhile, police have also established an emergency 24×7 helplines across the Valley to assist people in need of help due to prevailing situation.

A police spokesperson here today said police have launched rescue operations at some places and people who were trapped because of increase in water level are being rescued.

He said rescue operations in Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla was going on at Tarzoo, Panzipora, Hygam, Dangiwacha, Behrampora.

He said people from these areas who were trapped because of the increase in water level of Khursi Nallah were being shifted to safer locations.

Meanwhile, he said police have put its men on high alert to meet any possible challenge and eventuality and has established emergency control rooms in all districts of the Valley to provide help to the people in need.

These control rooms will remain open 24×7, he added.
