President of the Swim N Survival Society-Kashmir (SNSS-K), Shakeel Ahmed, presented mementoes and certificates to over 40 participants at the Water Sports Centre, Nigeen, marking the successful completion of a 100-day swimming course. The event recognized the efforts of young swimmers who took part in the camp, organized by SNSS-K in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Kashmir.
The camp, which began in June, was specifically designed for non-swimmers and received an enthusiastic response from the local community, particularly from children. Scores of participants, accompanied by their parents, attended the morning coaching sessions regularly.
Speaking at the event, water sports expert Riyaz Wani emphasized the importance of swimming, especially in flood-prone areas. He highlighted how essential swimming skills proved to be during the Valley’s 2014 floods, when those proficient in swimming were actively involved in rescue operations. Wani also expressed concern about youth swimming in open waters without proper safety equipment, a practice that has often led to tragic incidents.
Senior technical experts Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makhdoomi, and Zahid Iqbal, along with other volunteers, provided comprehensive training during the camp, ensuring participants gained essential swimming and water survival skills.
Other notable attendees at the event included Mudasir Chasti, Owais Rashid, Nasir Majeed, Moonis Majid, and Mosin Shah, all of whom contributed to the success of the camp.
