November 22, 2019 | BK NEWS DESK/SRINAGAR

The parents have accused the private schools of looting them in the name of education of their children. The accusations come after the schools increased fee arbitrarily yet again.
The parents also accused the Divisional administration and the Directorate of School Education of inaction, however, the Advisor to Lieutenant Governor who takes care of Education Portfolio assured action against the erring schools.
Parents these days make a beeline outside different private schools waiting for result cards of their wards. “You can’t get the result card till you clear your dues. I cleared my dues but the school management gave me another shocker when it asked me to pay miscellaneous charges amounting to Rs 2800 besides fee. What these miscellaneous charges stand for, I don’t know and even I was being informed by school authorities that books and syllabus won’t be available for my kid, till I clear these miscellaneous charges,” said the father of kid who had arrived at a private school namely ‘Fayaz Educational Institute’ that in local parlance is known as FEI located at Naikbagh in city outskirts.
Another parent who kid also studies in the same school told Kashmir News Trust that school authorities are extracting money from them by hook or crook. “I call it black-mailing. They deny syllabus to you unless you pay miscellaneous charges and they don’t provide you result card and books unless you don’t clear dues of the period from August to October when there was shutdown in Valley.”
FEI according to parents gave them another shocker by increasing fee manifold. “In this time of uncertainty when there is economic slowdown, the school arbitrarily increased the fee of the students. We don’t know what authorities are up to and why the people at the helm of affairs are not taking cognizance of this move,” they questioned.
Similar stories were narrated by parents about Wood Land School Sonawar, Oasis School Jawahar Nagar, New Convent School Gogji Bagh, SM Iqbal Educational Institute Teilbal, Saint Paul School Sonawar, K2 School Ishbar Nishat, GD Goneka School Lal Bazar, RP School Mala Bagh, Green Valley Educational Institute Ilahi Bagh and others.
Director Education Kashmir could not be reached.
Advisor to Governor KK Sharma said that action will be taken against those schools that loot parents in the name of education and have increased fee of the students arbitrarily. “Parents are requested to bring the problems into my notice and I will try my level best to resolve them,” the Advisor to LG said.
