Proactive NIA

October 11, 2021 |

National Investigation Agency has been closely watching and solving Kashmir cases to best of modern policing practices thereby reflecting the capabilities of its officers who leave no stone unturned to track and follow a case assigned to the premier investigating agency. In Kashmir, it has been conducting raids and arresting persons associated with hawala, separatism, drugs, foreign funding, NGOs, media, and others. It was the then chief minister Omar Abdullah who had given his nod to allow NIA probe in Jammu and Kashmir by seeking investigation in the controversial arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Liyaqat Shah by Delhi police in 2013. Shah had flown to Kathmandu, Nepal, via Karachi in Pakistan under the rehabilitation policy of the government. Subsequently, NIA expanded its reach and base in Srinagar and Jammu with the help of Jammu and Kashmir police and arrested top separatist leadership and their associates in following years and continues to keep track of anti-national activities if any in the Union Territory. It may have conducted hundreds of raids to gather clues and information about the cases and meticulously drafts the chargesheet so that accused are charged as per the law before the courts. In the court of law, evidence gathering is vital to a case and it should sync in with the merits of the case. As claimed by the agency, its action in Kashmir has yielded positive results as hardly any stone pelting incident is taking place due to curbs on activities of funding it through various point men who were active all these years to destabilize the peace and security in the Valley. Initially, the raids were conducted on big wigs of separatist parties but as of today it has secured names and addresses of all persons involved or associated with cases involved. The pattern of the raids is planned and coordinated in a manner that the accused is investigated with no collateral impact on the kin or neighbours even though there may be some heartburns obviously but the security of the nation is paramount for the officials and irrespective of the personality involved, the agency takes him or her to the task and books a person accordingly with chargesheet in court. NIA solved Pulwama bomb blast case and reached its roots and the route from where RDX was smuggled in Kashmir and the persons involved in it were nabbed and booked. Similar success stories are part of the exercise it conducts to solve multiple cases. The need of the hour is that NIA carries out its professional duties as per the laid down charter and principals but take care of innocent civilians who may be impacted during the investigation and in doing so it would achieve the distinction of global leader in probing sensitive and critical cases.
