Rail service suspended in Kashmir

All train runs were suspended as a precautionary measure in Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike today in protest against the killing of a youth allegedly in security force firing on June 6 evening at Shopian.
However, traffic on national highway, connecting the valley with the rest of the country, was through.
‘We have suspended all train runs in the valley today,’ a railway official told UNI.
He said train runs from Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir have been suspended.
Similarly, train service from Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund to Banihal in Jammu region were also cancelled.

Meanwhile,restrictions under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) were also imposed in the district headquarters of Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla, Badgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Kupwara.

The separatists called for general shutdown and protests against the killing of Adil Farooq Magrey of Ganawpora village.

Magrey was killed when forces opened fire on protesters who wer trying to disrupt an anti-militancy operation on Tuesday.

All educational institutions were also shut down to prevent student protests.

Examinations scheduled for Friday were postponed.
