Snowfall on Peer Ki Gali, Zojila
The plains in Jammu and Kashmir including Srinagar on Friday were lashed by rains while the weatherman has forecast more rains during next 24 hours.
Srinagar and other major parts of Kashmir Valley have experienced intermittent light to moderate rainfall since morning, bringing down the temperature and disrupting normal life.
As the temperature turned cool following rainfall and an overcast sky, many tourists on Boulevard Road on the bank of the iconic Dal Lake were seen wearing warm clothes to cope with the atmosphere.
A Meteorological Department official said generally cloudy weather with intermittent spells of rain/thundershower is expected at many places of J&K on June 21.
“From June 22-23, there is possibility of light rain/thunder at isolated places. From June 24-28, generally dry weather is expected but possibility of light rain/thunder at isolated places can’t be ruled out,” he said.
In last 24 hours, Srinagar received 5.7mm of rain, Qazigund 4.2mm, Pahalgam 4.4mm, Kupwara 4.0mm, Kokernag 1.4mm, Gulmarg 1.4mm, Jammu 0.3mm, Banihal 5.0mm, Batote 6.8mm and Bhaderwah 0.2mm.
The Mughal Road connecting Shopian district of south Kashmir with the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, received 4 inches of fresh snowfall, disrupting normal traffic movement on the road today.
The upper reaches of Zojila Pass on Srinagar-Ladakh highway also experienced fresh snowfall.
The MeT official said the heat wave is expected over plains of Jammu from June 22.
The maximum temperature in Srinagar dipped to 9.7°C.
The other weather stations of the Kashmir valley also witnessed a drop in the day temperature by 9°C to 11°C today.
The maximum temperature at the tourist spot of Pahalgam was 13.8°C temperature, Kokernag 17.2°C, and in Gulmarg temperature settled at 11.2°C.
