Rajnath likens by-poll defeats to going 2 steps behind for a long jump

Putting up defense to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s loss in recent by-elections, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that one needs to go two step behind in order to make a long jump.
Mr Singh was replying to media queries over whether the trends of by-poll results indicated a mandate against the BJP-led Centre and the Uttar Pradesh Government. He was here to address a press conference to apprise about achievements of the four-year-rule of the Narendra Modi Government.
Commenting on the rising prices of petroleum products and the scathing attack by the Opposition over the issue, he said that the price of crude oil in the international market is on an upward trend and petroleum companies are charging prices accordingly.
“The country’s economy is not being affected adversely. The Centre is capable of handling any emergency arising on the economic front. The government has foreign exchange reserves of 400 million dollars,” said Mr Singh.
Earlier, Mr Singh inaugurated the Central Academy for Police Training here today. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the state’s Home Minister Bhupendra Singh were present. Mr Singh reached the state capital late last evening and halted the night here. He left for New Delhi this afternoon in a special aircraft.
