Ramadhan crescent sighted, first Ramadhan today

The holy month of Ramadhan will begin in Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring Pakistan from Thursday, Chairman of the Pakistan’s Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced Wednesday evening.

According to Geo News the committee led by Mufti Munib met Wednesday for sighting of the Ramadhan moon.

The meeting was held at the main office of the Meteorological Department where evidence of moon sighting was collected.

The moon was sighted in various parts of the country, including Lower Dir, Buner, Nathiagali, Abottabad, Quetta, among others.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee earlier today also called on citizens to spot the crescent with the naked eye or through binoculars and to contact them on the following numbers and record their testimonies.

In Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the crescent was sighted on Tuesday. The month of Ramadhan will begin on Thursday, May 17 in the two countries.

Earlier the Australian National Imams Council declared that the holy month of Ramadhan will begin on Thursday.
