Regional editors on FAM tour to Kashmir, Kargil

The editors of the leading newspapers from different states who are on a five day tour to Kashmir and Ladakh Thursday evening held an interaction with the Secretary Tourism Farooq A Shah, Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah besides local travel trade and hospitality sector here at SKICC.
The editors who arrived in Srinagar on June 20 completed the FAM tour of Valley’s known tourist spots and left for Kargil today to witness the Kashmir beauty, culture, art and craft.
The journalists were all praise of the Kashmir’s beauty and the hospitable nature of the Kashmiris.
They said there were so many positive stories in Kashmir to write about which go unnoticed and which needs to be highlighted.
Manikant Soni, Editor of Dainik Bhaskar from Nagpur, said he was overwhelmed by the warmth of the local people here.
“There is disturbance in other part of the country also but in Kashmir people are very hospitable and the beauty is unmatched. There is a need to highlight the positive things from this place also to attract tourists,” he suggested.
The department of tourism Kashmir aims to started tourism promotional campaign by tapping regional media from different states in order to offset negative perception among Indian population that Kashmir is not safe to travel.
In this first batch, around 20 journalists mostly editors were invited from the states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kolkata and Goa.
In the next batch, the department is planning to bring electronic media from these states where from large number of tourists is visiting the Kashmir Valley.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary Tourism Farooq A Shah said tourism provides employment to large number of unemployed youth in Kashmir.
“We feel sad when we see hotels empty which lead to large scale unemployment here. From Shikara wala to Pony walla to highly educated youth find job in tourism sector if we have good tourist flow. We don’t want youth to be jobless. We will promote tourism vigorously so that it helps people earn livelihood,” said Farooq Shah.
Director tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah said they want to tap media from the states where from they get good response of the tourists.
“We don’t want to lose the tourists from the state like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kolkata, Goa and Rajasthan mostly. We have invited editors of the leading newspapers from these states who get published in regional languages. The editors visited Kashmir famous destinations like Pahalgam and Gulmarg,” said Shah.
He said they also sent the delegation to Kargil to promote the place among travellers.
The travel trade fraternity also urged the editors to highlight Kashmir in a positive way.
The department also hosted Iftaar party for the participants.
