The J&K administration has decided to name government schools in the union territory after soldiers and officers of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the J&K Police who have died in the line of duty.

Earlier, the J&K admin had asked the deputy commissioners in the union territory to identify 75 schools and 75 roads in their respective districts which will be renamed after prominent personalities.
The decision was announced through a notification issued by the administration released last week which said J&K schools will be renamed after martyrs.
It directed deputy commissioners of Jammu, Kathua, Doda, Poonch, Ramban, Samba, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Udhampur, and Reasi to identify government schools in villages/ municipal wards of their respective districts that can be after troopers who have attained “veergati”.
The circular asked the officers in these districts to constitute a committee at the district level to prepare such details after due verification.
The committee can include representatives of the Indian Army, the SSP, ADC, DPO, or AC Panchayat.
The order asked the deputy commissioners to prepare the final list and send it to the Office of the Divisional Commissioner in Jammu by or before August 5.
At least 17 state-run schools were renamed by the Punjab government earlier this year after freedom fighters.
However, the issue is sensitive and it is likely to spark a political row in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces have been accused of gross rights abuses.
