Separatist leaders caged in their homes

There was no relief for chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani while chief of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and several other separatists leaders have been put under house.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation, demanding right to self determination, had called for a strike on Friday against the killing of two youths in Pulwama, where two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces yesterday.
Geelani remained under house arrest since May last year, a spokesman of the amalgam Aiyaz Akbar said.
He said a large number of security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Geelani, who is not been allowed to offer Friday prayers in a mosque.
However, he said, in between Geelani was taken into custody several times after he defied house arrest restriction to lead protest marches.
Aiyaz said he too has also been put under house arrest, spokesman said adding HC general secretary Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrayee and Mehrajuddin too have been put under house arrest since early this morning.
He said hundreds of separatist leaders and other activities have been arrested, about 100 of them under Public Safety Act (PSA) in the valley since July last year.
He alleged that despite court orders the government has refused to release detenues.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq has also been put under house arrest since this morning, a spokesman of the amalgam said.
He said security forces have been deployed outside his Nigeen house and he has been informed that he cannot leave till further orders.
Mirwaiz was scheduled to address Friday congregation at historic Jamia masjid, he said.
