SHRC seeks report on ‘teacher couple sacking on wedding day’ incident in Kashmir

A day after reports claimed that a teacher couple was sacked by a private school on their wedding day attracted severe criticism, the Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday took cognisance of the issue and asked the school authorities to appear before it on Monday.

“SHRC chairperson Justice Bilal Nazki has taken a serious note of a news reports about the sacking of the teacher couple on the day of their marriage.
He said directed the School Education Director and the principle of the private school to file a report on Monday,” a spokesperson for SHRC said.

Tariq Bhat and Sumaya Bashir, residents of Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, were from several years employed at Pampore in Muslim Educational Institute.

However, the duo alleged that their services were terminated by the school management without any prior notice in November 30, the day they got married.
