Continuing with its endeavors to equip and upgrade the skills of unorganized work force in horticulture sector, KVK Srinagar SKUAST-K, undertook a 03 days Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Skill Development Certificate course w.e.f 28th of March 2024 under the aegis of Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI).Giving the insight of the programme, Head KVK Dr. Simnani, stated that RPL is an assessment tool to recognize the skill and knowledge of nursery growers &work force, they have attained through experience and learning process over the period of time outside the formal education and trainings to determine their qualification requirements for certification in a particular area of operation. The programme aims to secure the livelihood and self-employment opportunities of the unskilled workers through certification of their skills and knowledge.
As per the ASCI guidelines, the ongoing course is being organized for 40 No. of 8th Standard nursery workers and instructions on various components of nursery management in the fields of Horticulture both theoretical and Hands on-Training are being imparted by Dr. Gazanfer Gani, Dr. Rayees and Dr. Aasima, the coordinators of the training course .Propagation techniques for rootstock multiplication, budding /grafting for fruit crop, protected cultivation of high value vegetable & Floriculture crops, besides cultivation of bulbs &tuberous were imparted during the course to enable the trainees to establish their business ventures for better revenue generation with the ultimate goal to make the youth self-reliant.
