The night temperature at most places in Kashmir stayed above the freezing point on Thursday as residents experienced slight relief from cold conditions.
A MeT official said Srinagar recorded a night temperature of 0.4°C.
“Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 0.0°C against, Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.2°C, Kokernag recorded a low of 1.2°C and Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.1°C as against minus 0.3°C on the previous night,” he said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus1.2°C against 0.0°C on the previous night, the MeT official said.
Kashmir experienced unusually cold weather this season as the minimum temperature dropped several degrees below the normal.
The MeT department has forecast that weather would most likely remain dry but cold till the end of this month.
Director Meteorological department, Sonum Lotus has said weather would remain mostly dry till December 5.
He has advised people not to use heating appliances much during the night.
The wintry conditions have set-in much ahead of the beginning of extreme harsh weather conditions which usually start with the onset of Chillai Kalan, the 40-day period of harsh winter in Kashmir.
