Despite lofty claims of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to provide drinking water, from past year dozens of villages in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are facing water scarcity.
The Villagers of Nowpora Kalan are up in arms against the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) for failing to provide drinking water to them from past one year.
They said PHE officials visited the area and assured them to provide safe drinking water but after that no one turned up to address the sufferings of people.
Mushtaq Ahmad said women in the area have to travel miles for fetching the drinking water. “It takes us almost half an hour to fetch a single bucket of water from adjacent areas for cooking and for other purposes,” he said.
Ahmad said despite paying of water bills regularly our village is facing tremendous water shortage from past several months.
Another resident, Ali Mohammad said alleged the authorities of turning a deaf ear to a long time and repeated requests.
Villagers appealed the higher authorities PHE to look into the matter and direct the concerned authorities to restore the water supply at the earliest.
However, a senior official at PHE said that they would look into the issue and assured that it would be resolved.
“Our team will visit the village and will repair the existing pipes in these villages, the official said.
