Stop telecasting prohibited channels or fact action, Jammu and Kashmir govt to cable operators

In a fresh order Jammu and Kashmir government has directed the local cable operators to stop telecasting and transmitting all satellite channels, particularly operating from foreign soil, or face action.
The government had ordered local cable operators to stop telecast of Pakistani channels besides directed them to stop telecasting news and current affairs programme in 2008 when there was Amarnath land row agitation followed by in 2010 when about 120 people, mostly youths were killed in security force action against demonstrator.
Later government again evoked ban in 2016 when there were massive protests after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani in an encounter in Anantnag. And again in 2017.
However, majority of the cable operators later started telecasting and transmitting the banned channels.
The government had also directed its employees not to take part in any political discussion on these Kashmir based channels. However, no such ban was imposed on Jammu based cable operators who are telecasting news and political discussion daily.
Concerned over the reports that these banned channels are being telecast by local cable operators, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in a fresh warning has directed Srinagar based cable operators to immediately shut the telecasting and transmitting the prohibited satellite channels in the Valley for ‘maintaining peace and tranquility.’
An order issued by the ADC on July 12, 2018, and was sent to all heads of cable operators in Srinagar.
The order accused the cable operators of “telecasting and transmitting unpermitted and banned private satellite channels within the jurisdiction of Srinagar district.”
“J&K government, home department, vide Ps/home/2018-60 dated July 2, 2018, has reported that you  (cable operators) are telecasting and transmitting unpermitted and banned private satellite channels within Srinagar,” the order said.
The order further said that “It has become necessary and expedient in the larger interest of public and maintenance of peace and tranquillity to prohibit you (cable operstors) from transmitting non-permitted TV channels (which are not permitted by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting).”
The order also said now, therefore, in an exercise of powers conferred by section 19 of Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995 “you are hereby directed to immediately stop telecasting/transmitting non-permitted TV channels/banned private satellite channels within three days.”
The cable operators said that they have have been asked to furnish the notarised affidavit before the ADC Srinagar. In case the cable operators fail to submit the affidavit, the order reads “action under the provision of CTN (regulation) act 1995 will be taken against you”.
About 30 channels, including Geo, ARY, QTV, Saudi Quran, Saudi, Hadi, Karbala, Paigam, Peace TV Urdu, Haadi ,Noor, Sehar, Madani, Saudi Quran, Saudi Sunah, Paigam are banned.
