Submission of categorization documents: Newspapers urge govt to extend date, do away with ‘harsh’ modifications

Scores of newspapers on Wednesday urged the government to extend the date for submission of the categorization documents and do away with some “harsh” stipulations introduced in the categorization of newspapers by virtue of modification introduced recently.

The newspapers organizations told GNS that government should take a holistic view of the categorization stipulations especially the wage board. They said such stipulations are not even made by the DAVP.

They urged the government to extend the submission of categorization documents by newspapers in view of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and recent holidays.

“Recently a delegation of Editor’s Forum called on Governor N N Vohra and informed him about the problems faced by them.  “We also apprised the governor about the harsh stipulations,” they said.

The delegation of newspapers told Governor N N Vohra that the categorization policy approved by him during Governor’s rule has been modified.

They urged the Governor to prevail upon the Chief Minister to ensure withdrawal of the “harsh” modifications from the newly framed categorization policy.

“The Governor assured the members of Editor’s Forum that he will take up all pressing issues related to modifications in the categorization of newspapers and asked them to work for the unity of the state,” the delegation said. (GNS)
