The Seen and the Unseen

May 23, 2020 | Bazila Ayoub

The world is fighting against an unseen enemy, a Virus. This deadly virus has engulfed the entire world and has claimed thousands of lives. The whole world is in pursuit of finding a cure for this disease. This virus has made its way into Kashmir and is wrecking havoc in the heaven. Kashmir has been under lockdown from past 2 months, the people of Kashmir have disconnected themselves from the society so the virus may be contained. Kashmir has been hit hard by this deadly virus. The situation across the valley is very disturbing, people are unable to find any source of income.
When everyone is struggling for the lives, the students on the other hand are fighting another war. The education system is Kashmir has put the future of the students at risk. University of Kashmir have started holding online classes despite they all are aware about the present situation of Kashmir. Commencing online lectures that too on 2g internet speed neglecting each and everything, they have found a simple way to get rid of duties, adding more to struggle during this lockdown when people find it difficult the feed their families they have come up with new tool as they are now forcing the students to pay examination fee. We have witnessed that the education system of our valley is falling still we acted as mute spectators and that is the reasons this irregular education system has pushed many students into depression.
It’s nothing but shame on our education system that during this pandemic they are just looking for the ways as how to grab money from the students. When questioned, the officials say “It is for the betterment of the students”. I want to ask, how is it beneficial?, how is it supposed to help us?.
it is well understood that universities has done nothing in our favour as they are only concerned about producing unproductive graduates and post graduates as scholarly and intellectual upbringing is no where to be found. They are just contributing to develop another line of unemployed graduates. If they are really concerned about our future they should take each and every step towards restoration of 4g in our valley. Education authorities should concentrate on providing quality education, help students to rise during this pandemic. If the necessary steps are not taken by the authorities, the students of Kashmir might lose their chance of a better future.
