In an effort to use the information technology in educational management and bring transparency, efficiency and effectiveness in the system, Jammu and Kashmir Department of School Education for the first time has developed “School Education Information System” (SEIS).
The system currently in beta phase, is meant for proactive disclosure of information about infrastructure, enrollment, staffing and other details of all government schools of the state and also for better planning and human resource management of the school system.
The link is available at the official website of the Department, http://www.jkeducation.gov.in.
Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar who has been overseeing the project right from its inception said that it will give a jumpstart towards streamlining overall education sector within the shortest possible time.
He said that the department is engaged in continuous upgradation of the system so that it takes care of all the aspects of education sector while keeping in view the unique geography, culture and social characteristics of various areas of the State.
The online system is a repository for data collection, processing, analyzing and reporting of educational information including schools, students, teachers and staff. It can provide administrators and teachers with the information required for informed planning, policy-making, and evaluation.
It can change the school management in the areas of leadership, decision making, workload, human resource management, communication, responsibility, and planning. It shall also empower the local communities to get involved in their children’s education.
Meanwhile General public, civil society members, educationists, journalists and public representatives are requested to suggest about how to improve it.
