Srinagar: The non-seriousness of authorities in streamlining the traffic could possibly claim lives of patients as frequent gridlock can be witnessed outside Kashmir’s prominent hospitals especially at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) and Super-Speciality hospitals.
the commuters said that the street vendors and illegal car parking has resulted in frequent traffic mess outside the prominent hospitals in Srinagar.
“The frequent gridlock is being witnessed due to the occupation of roads by the street vendors who set up their stalls outside hospitals and parking of vehicles illegally outside hospitals,” commuters said.
They said that only one or two traffic cops could be spotted around hospitals to streamline the traffic, adding that the authorities should depute at least six traffic cops outside hospitals so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief.
However, the attendants of the patients said that the frequent traffic mess outside hospitals can prove catastrophic to the people who shift their patients to SMHS hospital and other hospitals for the treatment.
“A patient can lose his life in case he is stuck in a traffic mess. The authorities should take measures to ensure the traffic mess especially around hospitals will come to an end,” attendants of patients at SMHS said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City Srinagar, Tahir Geelani said that they have already started a drive against the traffic mess in Srinagar, adding that the drive is going and such gridlocks will come to an end soon.
He further said that the traffic mess being witnessed frequently is the outcome of wrong parking. “We are in contact with SMC and all these issues will be resolved soon,” he said.
Moreover, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Khursheed Ahmad Sanai admitted the hardships being faced by the people especially patients and said that street vendors will be given some alternate place in the area so that their business will also not get affected. “We won’t allow the street vendors to run their businesses at the cost of sufferings to the people. We will come up with the solution soon,” he said. (KNO)
