Traffic Treatment

Eid-ul-Fitr is ahead and there is a greater need to be well behaved and well-mannered as far as the traffic terror is concerned. In a bid to avoid traffic jams on the eve of Eid, authorities have issued advisory to commuters to use designated parking places in the city centre. On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, we are likely to witness huge concentration of shoppers in city centre areas and consequent high volume of traffic right from July 3, Sunday. To ensure smooth and hassle-free movement of traffic, co-operation of both commuters and pedestrians in city centre elsewhere in Srinagar is paramount to avoid any inconvenience during Eid-shopping and celebrations. All road users if abde avoid on parking on roads in congested areas, there will be a smooth traffic functioning within the summer capital Srinagar. The commuters have been asked to use designated parking places including Old SMG near Press Enclave, Sheikh-Bagh opposite Ganta Ghar towards river side, Polo View Opposite Banquet Hall, Polo View II near Garbage Shed, Polo View III opposite Sher-i-Kashmir Park, Opposite Mughal Darbar, Near SBI Residency Road, Sangarmal shopping complex, Lala Rukh road stretch, Avoid overloading in PSVs. We should hail Traffic Police Department for being quick and professionally upright to aware people about the constraints of the Traffic snarls. Pedestrians should use footpaths to avoid commuter-pedestrian conflict, obey traffic signals, use designated bus stops only for boarding / de-boarding of passengers, avoid illegal display of merchandize on footpaths and roads. It is to be noted that soon after the closure of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover road and the implementation of the much awaited Traffic diversion plan, huge traffic snarls were seen across summer capital Srinagar which resulted to nuisance to commuters. The relocation of the bus stand to Parim Pora, where a much better facility was already in place was a futuristic solution. However the implementation of Traffic diversion plan in view of eminent risk involved to the Traffic moving closely under hanging deck-slabs along Rambagh – Jehangir Chowk axis has become inevitable. Commuter co-operation and patience to obey lane driving and avoid traffic congestions has become more important for the civilized society in the present circumstances to avoid both fatality and congestion. There are many such steps that the traffic department can initiate with further men and machinery in place to regulate the traffic.
