Unnecessary Divorce: An Unknown Hell for Progeny

August 12, 2020 | Mohammad Rizwan

The dense fog had packed the air around him. He could not see anything around him but his father. As the car advanced, the air kissed his forehead and wiped his tears as if it was his own mother. He was being taken away from her, perhaps, forever! The voice of hers echoed in his ears over and again. He felt as if she was calling him by his name, Ziyan. This was the first time he had listened to his father's voice, the first time he had a close look of his face. His father, a tall, handsome man of thirty six, broke the silence by saying that Ziyan was now going to live with his own family in his own house. The kid's mind was full of questions. Which family am I going to live with? Which home I'm going to live in? Were not the people I had been living with my family? Was not the home I lived in my home?
He was a kid of mere six, yet he was well aware that his parents had been divorced, without knowing the cause. He was a sharp kid. As the journey trod ahead, he kept on asking himself the same questions. Doubtless he was taking a ride to his own home, yet this was the most difficult and traumatizing ride of his life. Only he knew what he was going through. He was being taken to a world of strangers, his own family members, yet strangers! Had his grandparents been there, he would have bombarded them with the questions he had in his mind. Nobody was with him but his father, whom he was afraid of, for he was but a stranger to him. There was a strange silence in the car after that, but his mind and heart were noisy.
Finally, he reached his home. He was welcomed by everyone with jubilation. Everyone gave him chocolates, toffees and what not, but nothing at that time could have brought a smile on his face. He was already missing the home he had lived at till that day. During the past six years, he was brought up with all the love and care at his mother's maiden home. Everybody there, his mother, grandparents, maternal uncles and aunt, loved him more than anything. They never let him stay away from them even for a single day.
In a week's time, he had got well adjusted with the people there. He began to love them. They loved him too, his father the most. Everything he wished for was presented in no time. His father would take him out for walks. He would enjoy going out to fields and new places. He began to love everything there. But there was this void which was unfilled. All the love of the world could not have filled it. He had a mother, but was still an orphan, a motherless child!
We break the pious bond of marriage over small misunderstandings. It has become a nuisance in today's society. The child, in my opinion, suffers the worst. A man, after a divorce, may find a new life partner for himself, so may a woman They may live a happy life after divorce with their new families. But what about the child? Can the child ever find new parents? Can this void be ever filled?
Marriage is a pious bond between a man and a woman. It is the beginning of a new life, a beautiful life! There's a mountain of responsibilities a person has to take on his/her shoulders after marriage. While taking up these responsibilities, many problems may occur. What do we do? We jump to divorce!
I strongly believe that every problem can be solved if we try to understand what the other person is going through. In Kashmir, usually, a man is out working all day. When he comes home, the wife need understand he might be exhausted and try to behave well with him. In the same way, a woman works everyday without a sick leave, holiday or a vacation. A man also need understand what his wife might be going through and behave with her accordingly. We need to ponder on this issue. We need to understand our better halves.
