Army eases his hardships through SWD
This is a story of a special boy with an extraordinary spirit, from one of the remotest villages, Shiri in Mughal Maidan Block of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Waris Hussain Wani, aged nine, was born with a congenital club foot, but his actions and spirit, is an inspiration for all. Like other children of his age, he does go to school, studies well and also does most of the work on his own.
Life in the mountains is really tough, but this has made Waris Hussain even tougher and strengthened his resolve. He has always dreamt of becoming a teacher and to be a contributor to society. Life was going along normally for him until he was noticed by the Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army at Mughal Maidan in January, 2022. Recognising his zeal, the army stepped in to ease his hardships.
Efforts were made by the army to seek help and provide him with a wheelchair and a disability pension. In continuation of the same, finally it was due to the efforts put on social media and coordination with the district social welfare department that the desired results were finally achieved on March 5, 2022.
The social welfare department in Kishtwar provided a wheelchair to Waris Hussain and processed his documents for disability pension.
Waris Hussain is high on confidence, with his new wheelchair and pension, his resolve has become even stronger towards realising his dream of becoming a teacher. He is presently in Class 4 and has already become a role model for the youth in the region.
