Thanks to LAWDA lethargy, the world famous Dal Lake is dying a silent but sure death. The lake stands chocked due to excessive growth of weeds.
Dal dwellers said the Lakes and Waterways Development Authorities (LAWDA) a body looking after water bodies has gone missing since August 5 when the union government revoked Article 35A and 370 of the constitution and bifurcated the state into two union territories.
The dwellers also said the lake has been receiving tons of garbage since the past three months. “The lake stinks and if immediate measures are not taken now, the future generations will not see the lake,” they said.
As per locals, LAWDA is in deep slumber and paying no attention to restore the pristine glory of the Dal. It is stinking here, said a Dal dweller.
A Shikarawala said that even those who come here for fishing empty their belongings including soft drink bottles and cigarette packets into the Lake.
“God help those who help themselves. We have to change ourselves if we are serious about this Lake,” said a local adding that LAWDA cares a fig for their duties. (KNT)
