World Environment Day:Srinagar Airport conducts day-long plantation drive

World environment day was celebrated today at Srinagar International Airport with great fervour and zeal.
Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Chaudhary Lal Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion said the significance of environment in our day to day life and said that it is the duty of every individual to protect all the natural resources around them to secure their future. He expressed concern over the alarming situation that has arisen due to constant degradation of environment and ruthless deforestation.
To commemorate World Environment Day, Srinagar Airport organized a day long plantation drive, wherein free of cost plants were distributed among the passengers. “Through this initiative, the aim to increase plant cover by giving away the saplings that requires little special maintenance.
Addressing to the gathering Airport Director, Srinagar Airport, motivated the people to increase awareness about the environment, ill effects of deforestation, global warming, preservation and conservation of environment. Airport Director in his message emphasized upon the significance of such sensitization drives so that the message of saving biodiversity to reverse the trends of climate should reach every nook and corner of the region.
