Our society has created various phobias & stereotypes about success & merit. We always draw illogical comparisons between various people to define parameters of success
Competency & efficiency in education is not always decided by marks & grades. The benchmarks of competency are wider & multi-dimensional. With high respect to everyone, I humbly disagree with narrow-minded benchmarks of success. We must analyze the academic & professional trajectory of any person before drawing conclusions & inferences. We cannot slaughter facts & realities through irrational & illogical comparisons.
Firstly, our society has created various phobias & stereotypes about success & merit. We always draw illogical comparisons between various people to define parameters of success. Recently, one of my well-wishers told me that some people raise doubts about your caliber & competence. They always compare you with your classmates & declare you as incompetent. I told him that although I do not need any certificate of merit from them, but I will throw light on it through an article. I have studied with those classmates till my 8th standard. They were equally immature those days as I was. Talking honestly, I have not secured high marks & grades in my academic journey till 12th standard. But my lower marks grades can not alone decide my caliber & competence. They cannot be the only benchmarks of my intellect. While on the one hand i have not secured so much marks, but on the other hand have qualified a prestigious competitive examination in 2013 with the blessings of Almighty & by dint of my hard work. Securing low marks & qualifying competitive examination are qualities of same person. Another friend of mine has drawn another illogical comparison between government schools & private schools. He is openly slaughtering logic that how government school candidates are qualifying competitive examinations as compared to private schools. It is as simple as it is. I am proud of that fact that I have studied in a government institution & that does not snatch my right to excel & compete. Excellence is imbibed irrespective of cadre, caste, creed & institution. It just needs iron will & dedication. These are universal parameters of achieving success. History stands testimony to the fact that great personalities of repute were not having benchmarks of high marks & grades.
Secondly, the narrow-minded benchmarks have already take heavy toll of our academic sector. We always chart course of our children on the basis of marks percentages. Although securing high marks are indeed one of the indicators of excellence, but it is not the end of the tunnel. We should always define excellence on the basis of every indicator & parameter. Every scientist do not get noble price & that does not define their scientific temper. Every post-graduate does not qualify JRF-NET & you can not brush them as incompetent. Every doctor does not qualify PSC & you can not undermine their merit. Most importantly every educated person does not get employed & that does not make them incompetent. Every person has been bestowed by unique qualities & attributes by the Almighty. We need to respect & acknowledge the divine decisions of Almighty Allah.
Last but not the least, let us become broadminded towards excellence & merit. Do not imprison your mind with narrow-minded parameters of success. Success is open to all hardworking & honest fellows.
