HE idea of teaching and learning is back dated to the oldest times ,has produced the competencies in the field of education and even transformed the teaching in its skills and abilities. Many teachers lack verve, proclivity and skill for their continuous growth and empowerment in teaching and learning processes.
The teachers are not necessarily in the legitimate teaching field when they lack all kinds of skills, commitment to strategic aims and a vision in demonstration of teaching as a profession.
How can teachers be empowered where their competencies don’t match up to the present demands of new educational policy ( NEP)? The problem may lie in the huge gap between skill training involvement and curriculum based activities, experiments and projects.
The teaching process has multi-layered structure as any dish requires many ingredients to make it flavored and tasty. We cannot see any growth and development in the environment of teaching where deficiencies are at surface or malfunctioning of the system is in visible cause. Then the potential of the teachers remain unlocked, the necessary competencies are not addressed properly and their empowerment remains unexplored.
The story starts with enablement building facilities and optimising capabilities, setting up mechanisms for running the system and to monitor the impact. Ad hoc based policies, recruitment through SSA, RTE or other schemes bursts of an intermittent effort to train teachers through service of training days, then requirement for successful teaching can't be achieved by these teachers.
Unfortunately, delivering content without a broad vision or strategy, especially cannot carry hope of empowerment in teaching which, in turn, limits the teachers’ ability to enable students — the ultimate stakeholders. A structured strategy in the system is not just necessary but it is crucial to students’ future and their upliftment. This journey has remained a difficult one as the system can’t really build a tower without laying the foundations. In our schooling system, recognizing those teachers with competence and key talent, and customizing them through to training modules can meet their needs in teaching and learning processes.
There is a main and effective way to empower the teachers to show proclivity towards this profession, the system needs to look closely at their commitment and the teachers should address their profession by presenting with rewards and recognition their hardwork. The commitment of teachers is a significant driver of motivation for teachers to drive themselves in the teaching career.
The most obvious thing in teaching is to set targets with short- and long term goals and monitor and assess the teaching and learning processes by time can help in accomplishing the best of services in teaching.
How well the engage in setting short and long term goals? How motivated are they to take responsibility for their students’ learning and futuristic goals is the another significant factor to upgrade the skills and experience of a teacher. One more point can be taken into consideration that their own learning abilities and reporting the progress can be made a valuable asset in their teaching performance?
In this digital outreach era eventually enabled thousands of teachers to join the thriving learning community with online classes if offline classes shall have to face any kind of brunt or disturbance and leaves any stone unturned in teaching the students. This is a roadmap for every teacher that how he can be a leader without being in a designated leadership role. With his vision, he may have been singularly responsible for a culture of innovation that helped his growth and reputation in the school as well in the society. Schools are rarely celebrate the successes of an individual teacher and acknowledging him at grand functions is a distant thing in raising his motivation and dedication.
Teachers cannot always be great at every aspect. Some are great at motivating students, others are curriculum drivers while many may not be great teachers in the classroom but can provide fantastic pastoral care. Identifying individual strengths and leveraging them by distributing key responsibilities throughout the wider institution can build a strong teaching and learning environment.
Teaching also encompasses the spiritual engagement with students, in this materialistic world, it has become a challenging factor that what are the essential factors to identify the spiritual being. Unfortunately teachers are treated as salesmen and just producing and selling the products at the time of results. Their selfless efforts are rarely recognized and their need for empowerment to do good for the betterment of the students is scarcely found.
Teaching is a noble profession which comes with so much responsibility and duty towards students. It needs proclivity and desire to inspire and motivate the students to carry out the future responsibility of the society.
