Traffic police launch heat relief drive for commuters in Sgr

July 02, 2025 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, July 1: Amid the scorching summer heat, the Srinagar Traffic Police, led by SSP Traffic City Srinagar Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, has been actively engaged in social service initiatives to support commuters and the general public on the city’s roads. Understanding the hardships posed by the intense heat, especially for pedestrians, daily wage workers, and roadside vendors, SSP Aijaz and his team have stepped beyond their routine duties to provide relief and assistance. They have set up multiple hydration points at key traffic intersections and busy marketplaces, distributing free drinking water to stranded commuters and vulnerable sections of society. SSP Traffic highlighted the importance of this initiative, saying, “The safety and well-being of the public is our foremost priority. Along with managing traffic efficiently, we want to ensure that no one suffers from heatstroke or dehydration while on the roads.” In addition to water distribution, traffic personnel have been assisting elderly and differently-abled individuals in crossing congested streets safely. They are also creating awareness among motorists and pedestrians about heat safety measures, urging them to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary travel during peak afternoon hours. Several commuters expressed gratitude for the police team’s proactive approach. “It’s encouraging to see our traffic police caring for people beyond their usual responsibilities,” said Rafiq Ahmad, a daily commuter. “The free water points are a blessing in this heat.” The initiative also includes coordinating with municipal authorities to maintain shade in bus stops and waiting areas and encouraging shopkeepers to offer temporary respite to heat-affected people. SSP Aijaz assured that such socially responsible actions will continue throughout the summer season, reflecting the department’s commitment to serving the community in all aspects. As the city battles high temperatures, the Srinagar Traffic Police’s efforts stand as a shining example of public service and empathy, blending law enforcement with humanitarian care.
