Residents of Behnipora, Dogripora and Rajwar area of Handwara on Friday expressed resentment over dilapidated condition of roads, which they said have not been macadamized from past 5 years.
They said from past 5 years Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has failed to repair these roads in the area. School children and shopkeepers are the worst suffers due to the bad condition of the road,” residents said.
Shanaz Bashir, a local resident told JKNS that they are facing inconvenience as roads have turned into ‘death traps in the area.
“A major stretch of road leading to Rajwar Handwara has been wiped off due to landslide in Behnipora to Lachampora area of Rajwar Handwara,” he said adding that these traps have become threat to local transporters.
He said government macadamized other link roads in the locality last year but these roads were “deliberately” left unattended by the administration.
They said from past 5-6 years, nothing has been done in the area and these roads are getting worse day by day,” he said.
Another resident Bashir Ahmad said they approached both R&B department and other concerned authorities, but they turned deaf ears to their pleas.
He said during any emergencies or other things they have to use alternative routes to reach the main highway.
“During rains and snowfall, these roads turn into dams and last year also, we had registered problem on R&B Grievance cell’ but things remain unchanged on the ground,” he said.
The villagers appealed Lt. Governor led administration and Chief Engineer R&B to look into the matter, so that they could get a sign of relief.
A senior official at Roads and Buildings (R&B) department told JKNS that they have these roads would be repaired within two months as it is long pending demand of the people.
