Introduction

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas(schools)collectively constitute an educational setup that is being run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti under the patronage of Ministry of Education at union level. The credit of establishing this well developed and well-equipped set up goes to late Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji-then P.M of India who while giving a nod to National Education Policy(NEP 1986) in order to modernize and expand the higher education program across India found the said educational setup. The name suggests that this samiti has been named after the name of First Prime Minister of India- Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru. and the only objective of establishing this samiti was to facilitate the students from far-flung areas with an SC,ST,OBC background and 30% students from open category whose parents could not afford better and quality education for their children due to lack of resources. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya provides free education to children of VI-XII grade students, free boarding and lodging , free text books, medicine and other amenities. Although the children of govt. employees are charged a meager fee of Rs 1000-1500 per annum. JNV ensures a conducive and flourishing atmosphere to students by encouraging their participation various co-curricular activities like games and sports, Quiz competitions, Debates and Discussions. In addition, the students are given a first hand experience of leadership qualities in the sense the sense that they are entrusted with some responsibilities like School Captain, Class Captain, House Captain and a due participation in various disciplinary activities. The work culture and routine followed inside school plays a vital role in achieving all-round development of a students. The involvement in sports activities makes them physically strong. Students here arise early at 5:30 p.m and run towards PET ground where they perform various physical activities hence making their stamina extremely strong.

Policy Matter

At the initial level it was proposed that one JNV will be established in each district of a state. The first JNVs established were JNV Jajhar, Haryana and JNV Amravati, Maharashtra. At present there are 661 JNVs throughout the country. there are 8 regional offices that are managed by Deputy Commissioners and Assistant commissioners. The schools run under this system are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education that conducts the 10th and 12th standard exams annually. Besides, it is the CBSE that conducts Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test(JNVST) and even the screening test for the selection of Teaching and non-teaching staff for Navaodaya Vidayalay Samiti. An ultimate quality maintained is the sole purpose of this systematic selection cum screening test. Thousands of students participate in JNVST every year and the topmost 80 students are selected for admission to 6th, 9th and 11th.

Infrastructure

Navodaya Vidyalaya has a well developed infrastructure. A sufficient accommodation for students is available that covers 14 classrooms, a smart-lab, and computer lab plus an all-weather M.P hall where morning assembly is conducted. There are separate hotels available for both the girls and boys. The students are divided into four houses of Senior and Junior wing. Maximum of 25 students are adjusted in one dormitory and one house has two dormitories. These dooms are ventilated, airy and hygienic.

Work Culture

JNVs have a uniform and identical work culture throughout India. The day starts here at 5: 30 a.m-the arousal time for students. The students move towards PT ground and a Roll call is held. then the students start Morning PT that continues upto 7:00 a.m. during 7:00 -7:30 the students have a fleshing and bathing time. The breakfast starts at 7:30 and morning assembly at 8:00 a.m. Classwork starts at 8:30 and continues up to 1:45 p.m. The timetable of 8 periods of 40 minutes each is strictly followed. 1:50-2: 20 is lunch time. 2:20 to 3:00 rest time. 3:30 to 4:30 remedial studies and 4:30 to 5:00 is snacks distribution time followed by a gap of 30 minutes which is followed by evening games from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dinner is had during 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. At 8:30 is House attendance is executed. And finally the day ends with a submission of Night Roll call by HMs/AHMs which is countersigned by school principal every day.

Staff

Every Navodaya Vidayalaya has a staff strength of almost 50 persons having various cadres. There are a Principal, Vice-Principal,30 PGTs and TGTs plus some Miscellaneous type staff like two counselors, one Music Teacher, One Art & Craft teacher and two PETs( Male& Female). Besides, there is the office staff like one Office Superintendent(O.S), One UDC, One LDA, One J.S.A and some Group-D employees. In addition, there are Hostel superintendents for both boys and Girls. Hostel wardens and Matrons for both boys and girls. Night -Chokidars to have an over-night vigil inside the campus so that any the safety and security is ensured.

Teaching-Learning Methodology

Navodayaya Vidyalaya is following the updated teaching trends and NEP-2020 in order that a holistic development of students is ensured. There are Samsung-labs and smart-boards are installed in every classrooms. Use of audio-visual aids makes the teaching-learning process an effective and result oriented. Open discussion are held in classrooms to clarify the concept. Children are encouraged to raise questions inside the classroom. Weak and slow learners are given remedial given from 3:30-4:30 p.m. In addition to remedial classes they are provided an abridged material to simply the content for them. Sample papers and reference books are provided to them so that they reach the level of normal students in exams.
Borad and competitive exams results: Navodaya Vidyalaya has a unique record in both the board and competitive field. Every year in 10th and 12th board exams that are conducted by CBSE, Navodaya Vidyalaya emerges with topmost results ranging from 95-98% pass percentage and with remarkable distinctions. Besides Navodayaya Vidyalaya has maintained a record in achieving good results in NEET/JEE/AIEE and other competitive exams.
So it would not be inapt to say that Navodaya Vidyalaya is the best platform for elementary/ secondary education. It is the system where we find education with a motive to develop a strong youth that are compatible with the students of the other educational setups and rather excel them in many aspects. Although it needs some reformations and renovations like encompassing more and more students from open category. Plus it requires an exam conducting agency of its own as CBSE sometimes fails to maintain the exam standard.it has been observed that sometimes question papers are too tough and sometimes too easy. And the evaluations standard definitely needs to be reformed to teh effect that the overall development of students is evaluated and not only the memory power is taken into consideration. Navodaya Vidyalaya teacher recruitment needs a modification to the effect that Hindi/ English should be scoring rather than qualifying in nature as it deprives many quality teachers of the opportunity of serving the department. It is a fact that some sates have not Hindi/English as a medium of instruction with the result the qualified folk cant not qualify the exams in spite of the fact that they passes a highly quality potential in their own subject. So, the language portion of the screening test paper should made of scoring nature , but not qualifying. there is a simple question how can a PhD holder in Maths be well versed in Hindi/ English grammar when he has no time at all to devote towards language learning.
