Srinagar, Jan 19: Several areas across Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh recorded the lowest minimum temperatures this month, with intense cold prevailing at high-altitude and interior locations.
In Kashmir, Sonamarg was the coldest at -8.3°C, followed by Pulwama (-5.1°C), Shopian (-4.7°C), Awantipora (-4.2°C), Anantnag (-3.9°C), Srinagar Airport (-3.8°C), and Gulmarg (-3.5°C).
In the Jammu region, only higher-altitude areas experienced near-freezing temperatures. Bhaderwah recorded -0.5°C, Udhampur 0.4°C, and Banihal 0.7°C.
Ladakh remained the coldest overall, with Hanle at -14.5°C, Leh at -8.0°C, Kargil -6.6°C, and Nubra Valley -6.1°C.
Weather officials said such low temperatures are typical for mid-January, particularly in snowbound and high-altitude areas, and urged residents in colder pockets to take necessary precautions.
