Srinagar, June 14: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the announcement made by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, regarding the reopening of eight tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley.
The Chamber termed the move as a vital and timely intervention to support the revival of the tourism sector, which has faced a sharp downturn following the recent tragic attack in the Pahalgam area.
According to the government’s decision, tourist attractions including Betab Valley, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens in Anantnag district, along with public parks in the Pahalgam market area, will now be open to visitors. In Srinagar, Badamwari Garden, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also be reopened.
KCCI noted that tourism in Kashmir is not only a cultural and environmental asset but a lifeline for thousands of local families, traders, transporters, hoteliers, artisans and small businesses.
The reopening of these areas is expected to send a strong and positive message to tourists across the country and beyond.
The Chamber had earlier requested both the Lieutenant Governor and the Hon’ble Chief Minister to reopen these sites to rebuild public confidence, and protect the economic interests of those dependent on the tourism industry. Today’s announcement is seen as a result of those earnest appeals and the administration’s recognition of the ground realities.
While tourist arrivals have shown modest but consistent signs of recovery in recent weeks, KCCI believes that the reopening of popular tourist locations will further reinforce this upward trend.
The Chamber reaffirmed its full support to the administration in promoting sustainable tourism and pledged to continue advocating for the needs and interests of the business and tourism community in the region.
KCCI appeals to the Government to consider opening of more closed destinations to help revitalize the industry.
