
Kashmir a crown of spirituality, says Prof Talat
Charari Sharief: Model Degree College Charari Sharief on Tuesday organised a two-day national seminar on ‘Contribution of Sheikh Ul Alam to Reshi- Sufi traditions of Kashmir’.
The seminar, which was organized by Markazi Noor Centre for Shiekh ul Alam, will conclude at the University of Kashmir.
The seminar was inaugurated by the vice-chancellor of Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad.
Among others who were present on the occasion include Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, vice-chancellor, Mehraj-u-Din, vice-chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Principal Model Degree College Chrari Sharief among others.
A number of leading scholars, academicians and prominent citizens among hundreds of students attended the seminar.
The key note address was delivered by the chairman of Markazi Noor Centre for Shiekh Ul Alam Kashmir University, G N Khaki.
He highlighted the role of Shiekh towards Kashmiriyat and the difficult path he trotted to achieve the goal of his life.
“His contribution towards Kashmiri culture will be remembered by generations to come. His teachings are a beacon of light for not just youth but people of all castes, religions and genders,” he said.
Three books written by different authors on Shiekh Ul Alam were released by the chief guest Prof Talat on the occasion.
Prof Talat said it is perhaps for the first time that three vice-chancellors have gathered at one event, “Kashmir is a crown of spirituality and a blessed land. Sheikh’s teachings are not restricted to just one community but they apply to all the religions,” he said.
“The focus of his teachings is that humans and society at large must shun greed. This is particularly relevant in today’s time. Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) stressed that what you do will get rewarded.,” Prof Talat said, adding that youth must learn from Sheikh’s teachings beyond yearly gatherings.
Prof Talat said the Kashmir University will set up an extension of Sheikh-ul-Alam Chair at Chrar GDC.
Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir Mehraj Din while addressing the audience said Shiekh Ul Alam was a visionary and his shurks are famous not just in Kashmir but in the entire world.
“His life is inspiring and his writings advise us to be patient, tolerant and caring for the environment. He was also a champion of human rights. He talked about the equality of human beings in his teachings,” he said.
“Hate was curbed by his teachings which focus on spirituality,” Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, who focused on Sheikh’s writings in scientific light, said.
He said a proposal for establishing Lal Ded Chair at IUST has been sent to UGC for approval.
The principal of the college Tabasum Rafiq said from 200 students, the institution has now more than 1300 on its rolls, “At the beginning, we were offering only Arts stream. Now we have expanded to medial stream as well. In coming days, more subjects will be taught to cater to evolving global trends.
A shawl, woven by two students of the college, was displayed at the seminar.
