
Handwara, Jan 24: Responding swiftly to a distress call, Police Personals wadded through 2 to 3 feet of snow for over 10 kms to evacuate a pregnant woman to hospital in Gundkamal Qaziabad in Handwara Sub district.
Zulikha Begum(30) Wife of Mohd Ashraf Chachi was rescued from the snow-bound Gundkamal Qaziabad area amidst inclement weather o Friday Night, the police official said.
A Police station Kralgund received a distress call from the Numberdar and other villagers of Gundkamal in Qaziabad tehsil, requesting for urgent medical evacuation of the pregnant woman who was in critical condition, he said
“Due to heavy snowfall, roads were completely blocked and very slippery. Realising the criticality of the situation, rescue and 108 Ambulance team of the CHC Kralgund immediately responded to the distress call, risking their own safety,” the official
said.
He said the Police Personals had to make their own way in 2-3feet high snow and carried the pregnant woman on a stretcher for 10 Kilometres till Gundkamal village where 108 ambulance was on standby to receive the patient.
The woman was carefully and safely evacuated to a Community Health Centre Kralgund, where she is refered to GMC Handwara, the official said, adding the six-hour-long evacuation on stretchers amidst inclement weather through snow-covered stretches reaffirmed the faith of the public in their personals.
Health workers accompanied the patient till the hospital, where the family and Health Team expressed their gratitude to the Police for their swift action and timely assistance as it saved the life of the patient.
