Jammu, Feb 3: Senior National Conference leader and Minister Sakina Itoo on Tuesday urged that the proposed National Law University be established in Kashmir, warning that locating it in Jammu could expose it to political interference and jeopardize its future.
Itoo cited the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College in Jammu as an example of an institution facing disruptions due to political pressures. She expressed concern that if the law university were set up in Jammu, objections could arise in the future over the admission of Muslim students, potentially threatening the institution’s functioning.
Highlighting Kashmir’s tradition of accommodating students from all regions, she said thousands of students from Jammu already study in Kashmir without discrimination. Itoo emphasized that the National Law University, envisioned as a state institution for all regions, should come up in Kashmir to ensure inclusivity, academic stability, and equitable access for students.
