The writer of the book dates back Kashmir's transition period to " Lalitaditya, the ruler of the Karkota dynasty, who entered into alliance with the Chinese in order to embrace Islam and promote it in his kingdom
Who among the scholars and writers would not like to write down about Sheikh-ul-Alam ( RA) or Nund Reshi in Kashmir and outside of the Kashmir. In fact Sheikh-ul-Alam( RA) has proved himself to give a challenge to all the scholars and saints of his own times and beyond in searching out the truth and false of all times in the social order of any society of past, present or future orientation. Hence, he is the testified one among the world famous scholars and indigenous one in his own cult and creed (Rishism) as a revivalist or reformer of the greater and brighter land of his own called Kashmir. Kashmir has not only been vanquished by the foreigners by encapturing their land and property but subjugating their cult and culture in terms of faith, language and rituals as well as literature. It is why literature of Hindu and Buddhist period is no more eminent or available with the converted stock of Kashmiris to their satisfaction and requirement. At the same time, newly reproduced literary work has not been acknowledged and accepted by the little minority of old times to their own satisfaction and recognition others. In the present times too foreign landed or reproduced literary material has had stunned and engulfed.
The student and scholarly community of Kashmir society to such an extent feel a sort of culture lag to bear it up. Hence Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) the enlightened scholar of our own land of Kashmir has big scope to be rediscovered for our intellectual satiation and satisfaction.
In this backdrop G.N .Gauhar of Charar-i-Sharief delved deep into his book, "Kashmir Mystic thought" for the English knowing people. Unity in diversity" authored by Prof. B.N.Parinoo is all comprehensive, both in translating and introducing Sheikh's poetry and life. In Charar-i-Sharief, G.N.Adfar has got prominence in translation work of Sheikh's Kalam (Poetry) etc. Badruddin Muqeem (KAS) has also worked in this field. Recently the book entitled "The Rise" (Reshrugs of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) written by Dr Gazanfar Ali has also got its placement in the literary works of Shiekh ul Alam (RA) G.A. Rangrez has also done a lot in translation work of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) studies in English and the present day work of Farooq Wani is a worth like attempt in this field. His book " Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) Kashmir's Mystic Sufi Saint " though bearing 40 pages, is a miniature work above all to be estimated and evaluated a lot. This book is comprised of three contents:
1. Memoir of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA)
2. Perspective on Sheikh's Life
3. Scholarly position of Sheikh-Alam (RA)
Memoir
First account gives the reader a summarized introduction of Sheikh's family background and positioning of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) as a pioneer of Kashmiri Sufism and the Rishi Order. The writer of the book dates back Kashmir's transition period to " Lalitaditya, the ruler of the Karkota dynasty, who entered into alliance with the Chinese in order to embrace Islam and promote it in his kingdom". It seemed to be new and novel for me.
Perspective
Second account, entitled perspective on Sheikh's life" is no less important as it has been illustrated and understood in three words -
1. Godliness
2. Humanism
3. After Death
This sort of account is really the crux of Sheikh's message and philosophy in poetic manner. This title is too worthy a lot because of translation works of classical Kashmiri into English, the present day Language of modern literary world.
Scholarly Position
Chapter 3rd entitled scholarly position of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) has present day value of comparative studies of an outstanding literary figure vis-a-vis the outside acknowledged luminaries of one's own standard and stature just like our Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) and other scholars of the world. This topic is still to be utilized and worked out as to see why the foreign scholars have over possessed and over dominated our own, whose cherishing faith rejuvenates and reminds even the new generation of 21 century the third millennium of Kashmir. As to see even if the mausoleum along with the Kanqah (Grand Mosque) of Charari Sharief was inimically destroyed, desecrated and demolished as a whole in sideway intrusion by foreign power as an attempt of war trial, the city of Alamdar has again got into its own superior positioning both in physical and metaphysical manner. Hence Farooq Wani and his literary work is likely to add a feather into his journalism of literal values. May God bless him a lot, and keep him in the good guidance of Kashmir's light-bearer i.e. Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) Ameen!
