10 drug peddlers arrested in Anantnag

Anantnag, Oct 11: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking, Police in Anantnag intensified naka checking, patrolling and surveillance across the district, resulting in the arrest of ten drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Larnoo, during naka checking at Lessu, apprehended Mohd Iqbal Dangroo son of Mohd Rajab Dangroo resident of Lessu Branard. A bag containing approximately 2.393 kg of Cannabis was recovered from his possession. Similarly,in two separate incidents in the Arwani area, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara apprehended Mukhtar Ali son of Manzoor Ahmad and Dolal Ali son of Bahadur Din, both residents of West Bengal and recovered Charas from their possession.
Meanwhile, a police party of Police Station Srigufwara, during naka checking near Hatigam Crossing, apprehended Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Hassan Bhat resident of Sirhama. During search, approximately 55 grams of charas and 86 grams of charas powder were recovered from his possession. Moreover, a police party of Police Station Uttersoo, while patrolling near Krad Bridge, apprehended Mohd. Arif Magray son of Mohd. Akbar resident of Deethu Shangus and recovered 15 grams of charas-like substance from his possession. Beside, a police party of Police Station Mattan, during naka checking near the footbridge at Bumzoo, apprehended Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie resident of Gund Bagh, Seer Hamdan. During search, approximately 90.2 grams of charas were recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, Police Post Dialgam at a checkpoint established at Bondialgam apprehended Fayaz Ahmad Magray son of Gh. Rasool Magray resident of Donipawa, Anantnag. Approximately 8 grams of charas-like substance were recovered from his possession.
In a separate operation, a police party during naka checking at Shehlipora Crossing, intercepted an Innova vehicle bearing registration No. JK02AN-3114, driven by Irshad Ahmad Ganaie son of Gh. Rasool Ganaie resident of Shehlipora. During checking of the vehicle, approx. 8.4 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered. The accused was arrested, and the vehicle was also seized. In another operation, a police party during patrolling at Akingam, apprehended Feroze Ahmad Sofi son of Gh. Hassan Sofi resident of Akingam, Achabal. During his search, 18.4 grams of charas-like substance was recovered. Moreover, a police party of Police Station Uttersoo, during patrolling in the Cheerpora area, apprehended Aijaz Ahmad Lone son of Mohd Hussan Lone resident of Cheerpora. During search, a polythene bag containing approximately 12 grams of charas was recovered from his possession.
All the accused have been arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations. Further investigation into the cases have been initiated.
Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace and taking strict legal action against those involved in drug trafficking. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police and share credible information regarding drug-related activities to help build a drug-free society.
